supervision & Mentoring
Good supervision should be more than simply reviewing cases or talking through what happened at work.
I provide professional supervision and leadership mentoring for social workers and people working across the community and human services sector.
My approach is reflective, practical and supportive. Supervision provides a space away from the day-to-day demands of your role to think about your practice, work through challenges, develop your professional identity and consider how the work is affecting you.
I provide individual professional supervision for social workers, including practitioners seeking external supervision outside of their workplace.
Supervision can provide a confidential and reflective space to explore your work, including:
Complex cases and clinical decision-making
Professional boundaries and ethical dilemmas
Developing your therapeutic or social work practice
Reflective practice and professional identity
Working with trauma and complex presentations
LGBTIQA+ affirming and neuro-affirming practice
Managing challenging professional relationships
The emotional impact of the work
Vicarious trauma, burnout and maintaining sustainable practice
Career development and professional goals
My aim is not to tell you how to practise, but to create a space where we can think critically and curiously about your work, recognise what you're already doing well, and identify areas where you would like to develop.
Supervision can provide an opportunity to step outside of the immediate pressures of the workplace and reflect on challenging situations, boundaries, relationships, decision-making and your own responses to the work.
It can also be particularly useful in roles where formal workplace supervision tends to focus heavily on operational matters, leaving limited time for genuine reflective practice.
Community & Human Services Supervision
Professional supervision can also be valuable for people who aren't social workers.
I have more than 20 years of experience across the social and community services sector and understand the complexity of working in roles where you're supporting people experiencing vulnerability, trauma, disability or significant life challenges.
I offer external supervision to professionals working in areas such as:
Disability and NDIS services
Youth work
Youth residential care
Mental health
Child, youth and family services
Homelessness services
Community services
Other human services and support roles
Leadership Mentoring
Moving into leadership can be a significant transition.
Being good at your professional role doesn't automatically prepare you for managing people, having difficult conversations, making decisions or navigating the competing needs of staff, clients and an organisation.
I bring extensive leadership experience from across the community and human services sector, having worked in a range of leadership roles within non-government organisations and government departments. This experience has given me an understanding of the realities of leading people in complex service environments, including balancing the needs of staff, clients and organisations.
I provide leadership mentoring for people working across the community and human services sector, including emerging leaders, new team leaders and managers, and experienced leaders wanting an external space to reflect on their leadership.
Mentoring can focus on areas such as:
Developing your own leadership style
Building confidence as a leader
Moving from practitioner or colleague into a leadership role
Managing and developing staff
Having difficult conversations
Providing feedback and managing performance
Managing conflict within teams
Setting professional boundaries
Decision-making and accountability
Navigating workplace dynamics
Supporting staff exposed to trauma and complex work
Maintaining your own wellbeing and sustainability as a leader
Leadership mentoring is tailored to you and the challenges you're experiencing rather than following a set program.
External Supervision for Organisations
I am also available to provide external professional supervision to staff working within community and human services organisations.
External supervision can provide staff with an independent space for reflective practice, particularly for teams working with trauma, complexity, disability, young people or other high-demand areas.
Individual or ongoing supervision arrangements can be discussed directly with organisations.
