About Adam Weatherill

Whatever season you're in, you don't have to navigate it alone

New Season Therapy

I’m an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and counsellor with more than 20 years of experience working across the social and community services sector, including community mental health, homelessness and the justice system.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside people from many different backgrounds and at very different points in their lives. What I’ve learned is that good therapy isn't just about techniques or theories — the relationship you have with your therapist matters.

My style is warm, relaxed and collaborative. I want therapy to be somewhere you can speak openly, be curious about yourself, and feel comfortable bringing all parts of who you are into the room.

I have particular interests in trauma and EMDR therapy, working with young people (aged 12 and above), and supporting LGBTIQA+ people and their families.

My Approach

I don't believe there is one therapeutic approach that works for everyone.

My practice is trauma-informed, person-centred, neuro-affirming and LGBTIQA+ affirming. I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on the person I'm working with, including:

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Solution-Focused approaches

  • Psychoeducation and emotional regulation work

My social work background also shapes the way I understand mental health. Our experiences don't happen in isolation. Family, relationships, community, identity, culture, discrimination, systems and the environments we live in can all influence how we experience ourselves and the world around us.

I therefore try to understand not only what is happening for you, but also what has happened around you and what experiences may have shaped the way you learned to cope.

What Therapy With Me Is Like

You don't need to arrive at therapy knowing exactly what is wrong or what you want to work on.

Sometimes people know exactly what has brought them to therapy. Other times they simply know that something doesn't feel right, that they're stuck, or that experiences from the past continue to affect them.

We can work that out together.

I won't expect you to tell me your whole story in the first appointment, and I won't push you into discussing experiences you're not ready to talk about.

My role is to create a space where we can develop an understanding of what is happening for you, identify what you would like to change, and find an approach that feels useful and manageable.

Ultimately, I hope therapy helps you understand yourself and your experiences more deeply, process the things that may be keeping you stuck, reconnect with your strengths, and move towards a life that feels more like your own.
